The Acer 1200 has been a good investment. It's very useful in many cases; it's good for working, for playing or for 'surfing' on the net. Fast processor and excellent screen. The only problem I find with it is the fan sound.. It's very annoying after a while. Except for that, the laptop is very useful and there is a small chance that it will fail you..
Had nothing but problems with the Acer TravelMate 244 from day 1, had to return 5 times and had to wait 2 weeks each time for repair. Different problem every time and customer service is hopelessly slow responding to faulty product and even try to avoind repairing products still on warranty. Hard drive replaced twice which I lost all of my work. Charger is built cheeply and usually breaks down before 8 months as many of my work collegues had the same problems.
As a student looking for a good spec laptop but for lowest cost I found that the Advent 6412DVD to meet these (October 2001). Ever since I have had it there seems to be problems with the screen, with it flickering between on and off when it feels like it or when I move it. Highgrade were little help, and not very prompt at fixing the problem, or making sure it was collected in the first place! PC Service Call were much better, and I got advice on a battery/power supply problem I was having, which now seems to have dissapeared.
First I should say that I bought an end of line ex display model, so it was only £720. Screen is 15.2" wide screen with a resolution of 1280 by 854 and has great viewing angles. The Graphics card is a Geforce4 440 Go 64M AGP, which has good dvd playback and dual view support, and tv-out. This laptop comes with a 40 Gig HD, 512 Mb Ram, and Intel Pentium 4 mobile 2 GHz and won't dissapoint. The sound quality is fantastic, no other notebook compares, it's almost like having hi fi speakers. As for ports there are 3 UBS2, 2 Firewire(4 pin and 6 pin), a parallel port, 1 pcmcia slot, sd card slot, vga out, tv-out, mic in (plus built in mic), line in and line out. An extra plus on this machine is a multimedia pannel at the side of the keyboard, so you can change volume and change chapters on dvd without touching the software. - NICE !
In general, this is a very productive business and home computer. While I had some initial hardware problems, the iBook is relatively crash-free, and the software is beautifully written. I have never cracked a manual to learn about any of the programs written for OS-X. However, the actual shell of the computer, hinges, CD drive and other aspects are frighteningly frail, and I can see cracks radiating from the fasteners in the screen area. Apple charges an extraordinary amount for serivce, so get the extended warranty plan if you buy one of these computers.
I purchased my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop a year ago and have used it daily since then. Though there are lighter weight and more powerful laptops around, this has been a workhorse that has delivered. I initially wanted to dual boot Windows 2000 and Mandrake Linux 8.x, but found that the Radeon 9000 video card in the system had no drivers for either (there is a Radeon 9000 driver in both, but these drivers are not compatible with this laptop). I was forced to use the Windows XP that came with the system and buy a third party video driver for Linux. SuSE 9.0 solved the problem with full 3D graphics support for this version of Radeon (as far as I know, Windows 2000 is still not supported). Dell once had very good technical support, but they have slipped quite a bit in the past few years and, if anything goes wrong with a Dell, be prepared for a painful time getting it repaired.
The Dell Insipron 9100 is a GREAT laptop. My notebook specs are P4 3.2 GHZ (MAX) 512MB DDR 3200 (400MHZ) FAST for a notebook for now 2004. Later the memory will be faster for notebooks I hope. I have a 100GB drive. Hope it will not have any problems at all.
Bought the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1840 having purchased many siemens products in the past for my home. I stupidly believed their computer products would be of similar quality. This was a mistake. Paint scratches to easily. Badly put together casing. Battery life rubbish & the front left hand area of the keyboard becomes almost to hot to touch when left running for several hours. Many of my collegues use apple products which are far superior for the money. When I contacted fujitsu siemens customer support I felt they did not listen to the issues I had with their product. Not recommended.
Hi guys! Yeah I've had my Sony Vaio for about 3 years now and it's never played up, it has a typical 40gb hard drive, firewire, cd, floppy disk and more. I've brought an 20gb external hard drive because I thought before I bought the computer the more on a laptop the slower it would get, but no this laptop just purrs. Can anybody tell me how to hook it up to a TV set, I have the right AV cables and stuff but not sure what to do with the computer side of it, I'll be most appreciative if anybody can give me tips. See ya guys! I'm new to this site, so please tell me if im doing anything wrong.
I bought this notebook as a suppliment to my desktop computer. I needed something light and easy to take to class and work. It had to be light. I went with the N505VE because it met all my critera. I went with a Addoincs CDROM rather than getting the Sony model. Of my purchase I only ish that I had spent the extra $150 and gotten Sony's CDROM, just because it allows you to boot of a CD. If you plan to put Linux on it GET THE SONY CDROM. I've tried the whole PCMCIA boot thing and it doesn't work out to well because the floppy is USB. Luging around the CDROM isn't really a problem if you get Virtual CD. Just toss the CD image on the hard drive and away you go. |
